Namalomba arrested over illegal wood exportation

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested Shadric Namalomba, former Commissioner for Customs and Excise at the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA).

Namalomba who is also Spokesperson for the opposition Democratic Progressive Party has been arrested over allegations that he used his official position in 2015 to facilitate the illegal export of banned Mukula hardwood logs.

He is accused of facilitating the unlawful transfer and warehousing of these logs for a private businessperson, abusing his office, and conspiring to commit a felony.

Namalomba is expected to be charged with misuse of public office and conspiracy to commit a felony.
