Three people arrested over plot to kill Inkosi Mmbelwa

Police in Mzimba have arrested Masabani Jere, and two others, Smart Nyirenda, and Muva Nkhata, for allegedly conspiring to kill Inkosi ya Makosi M’mbelwa V, the Ngoni Paramount Chief.

Jere, one of the contenders in the Inkosi Mzikubola chieftainship wrangles, is accused of being the mastermind behind the plot.

The three suspects, all from the area of Inkosi Mzikubola, were arrested in an intelligence-driven operation and are being held at Mzimba prison.

They’ve been charged with conspiring to commit a felony, while Jere faces an additional charge of possessing a firearm without a license, after a revolver and ammunition were found at his home.

The motive behind the alleged conspiracy is still unknown.

According to Mzimba police spokesperson Maria Banda, the suspects had hired someone else to carry out the crime.
