Unsafe city? Crime rising in Blantyre

Blantyre, has seen a 3.6% increase in crime rate, with 739 cases reported between January and June, up from 713 last year, the Malawi Police Service has said.

Robbery cases rose 27.3%, and theft increased 9.7%, possibly due to urbanization.

However, the police have successfully reduced traffic offenses, sexual offenses, homicide, and break-ins.

Blantyre Police Station Officer Ziwanji Mtunduwatha has urged the public to remain calm during the upcoming elections in September.
