Mzuzu City Council staff strike!

Staff members at Mzuzu City Council have started holding a sit-in protest to press for a 10% salary increment and resolution of pension contribution issues.

According to General Secretary Typen Kamanga, the protest is sparked by the council’s decision to reduce pension contributions to Nico Life Insurance from 25% to 10%.

Kamanga also demanded that former mayor Kondwani Nyasulu return his vehicle, citing the expiration of his tenure.

However, Council spokesperson McDonald Gondwe countered that maintaining the 25% pension contribution was unsustainable.
