” Malawi immigration is SHIT” says innovator at failed passport printing

A Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) student, Emmanuel Nangwiya, has expressed frustration and disappointment with the Malawi Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services.
In a social media post addressed to President Lazarus Chakwera, Nangwiya shared his distressing experience with the department’s inefficiency.
Recognized as the “Best Fin-Tech Software Developer – 2024” in Malawi, Nangwiya was invited to TICON AFRICA, an international conference for innovators in Ghana.
However, due to the department’s failure to print his passport within two months, he missed the conference.
Despite efforts by the ICT Association of Malawi (ICTAM) and the National Bank of Malawi, who funded his trip, the passport issue remained unresolved.
Nangwiya’s post conveyed his extreme dissatisfaction with the department’s services, which he believes are inefficient and ineffective.
His story has sparked concern and debate among citizens, who are calling for improved governance and accountability.
