South African tourist still missing in Malawi since July

The search for Gerhardus Albertus Janse Van Rensburg, a 72-year-old South African national who went missing in Nyika National Park on July 17, is still ongoing with no breakthrough.

Despite efforts by search teams using drones and ground patrols, no trace of him has been found.

The Malawi Police Service’s K9 Unit has been deployed to assist in the search, with trained dogs helping to track possible trails and access difficult areas.

Government officials have assured the public and Van Rensburg’s family that all available resources are being utilized.

The search has been challenging due to the park’s vast hills and rugged terrain, with nighttime temperatures dropping to 9°C, creating hazardous survival conditions.

The Ministry of Tourism has confirmed that the search will continue, with multiple agencies, including the Peace Parks Foundation and Wilderness Safaris, collaborating to locate Van Rensburg.
