Poisoned food kills 9 year old

Neno District Health Office has confirmed the death of 9-year-old boy, James Julius, who died after eating poisoned food.

According to Dr. Albert Chafunya, Neno District Health Officer, the boy ate the food together with his family, but three of the children fell seriously ill during the night, experiencing severe diarrhea.

James, was pronounced dead, while his twin brother and another sibling were admitted to the intensive care unit. 

Dr. Chafunya said tests conducted at the hospital revealed that the food is the pounded cassava bark processed into flour and contained poison.

The incident happened in Nyakoko Village under Sub-Chief Chikalema in Neno. The children involved are aged between 9 and 11 years.
