Gunman on the run in Nkhatabay

Police in Nkhatabay have launched a manhunt for a suspect accused of illegally possessing an antique firearm and attacking a man in Mtowa Village, Mzenga area.

According to Nkhatabay Police Station spokesperson Enala Kalua, the incident occurred on September 8, 2025, shortly after a football match at Chinthewere ground.

Kalua said the suspect targeted 32-year-old Jeremiah Banda, stabbing him several times in the head before attempting to fire the old weapon. However, the gun failed to discharge.

Kalua added that community members who were present at the scene acted swiftly, rescuing Banda and managing to disarm the suspect.

The attacker fled immediately after losing control of the firearm.

Police have since intensified efforts to track down the fugitive.
