Likoma ADMARC theft suspect jailed six years

The Likoma Magistrate Court has sentenced 28-year-old Gabriel Yohane to six years in prison for stealing nearly K16 million from Chizumulu ADMARC depot.

According to court proceedings, Yohane, who comes from Mgawi Village in Dedza, was found guilty of breaking into the depot on the night of September 7–8, 2025 and he gained entry by removing an iron sheet from the wall behind the depot’s shade before fleeing with K15,990,100 in cash.

Police later tracked Yohane to a resthouse in Likoma, where they recovered K11,638,000 of the stolen money.

The sentencing brings closure to a case that stirred public attention after Yohane’s arrest earlier this week. Authorities say the remaining cash has not yet been accounted for.

The six-year custodial sentence is expected to serve as a warning to others involved in theft from government institutions.
