Pig theft leads to brutal death

A 28-year-old man, Richard Mbewe has been killed by an angry mob in Mchinji after being accused of stealing pigs at Tengeza Village under Traditional Authority Kapondo.

Mchinji Police spokesperson Limbani Mpinganjira identified the deceased as Richard Mbewe, who was operating a business at Chipumi Trading Centre in the district.

According to police, a postmortem revealed that Mbewe died due to hemorrhage caused by severe assault.Mbewe came from Sangulukani Village, T/A Kapondo in Mchinji.

Police have since condemned the act, reminding communities that mob justice is illegal and urging people to report suspects to law enforcers instead of taking the law into their own hands.
