Mumba says Malawi elections are being RIGGED
Vitumbiko Mumba, the running mate for the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), has raised serious allegations of election rigging, claiming discrepancies in the unofficial tallies that currently position the MCP in second place behind the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
Mumba’s comments come as the nation grapples with the integrity of the electoral process in the wake of the recent elections.
Mumba highlighted anomalies in the Constituency Tally Sheets from Mangochi South West, asserting that they illustrate a concerted effort to inflate votes for rival candidates, particularly those aligned with the DPP.

“Thirteen districts were targeted for this manipulation, following a pattern seen in the 2014 and 2019 elections, but executed with a new twist,” he stated in a viral Facebook post.
Mumba pointed to inconsistencies in handwriting and signatures on the tally sheets, particularly where the DPP candidate purportedly received over 21,852 votes.
He urged supporters to remain calm, emphasizing that anger often stems from those unwilling to accept the truth. “Only the blind cannot see the reality,” Mumba added, reaffirming that these claims were not mere grievances but a call to action for MCP supporters to prepare for forthcoming updates on the party’s response to the alleged rigging.
MCP has committed to formally addressing these concerns and outlining the steps they will take moving forward, though details remain sparse. Political analysts suggest that while allegations of election fraud are not uncommon in Malawi’s electoral history, the response from both parties will be critical in determining public trust in the democratic process.
In a climate of heightened political tension, Mumba’s assertions serve as a reminder of the fragile nature of electoral integrity. As the situation develops, the MCP is poised to keep its supporters informed, aiming to bolster confidence amidst accusations from both sides.
As the nation awaits more official results and potential reactions from the DPP, it is clear that the conversation around electoral fairness will continue to dominate Malawi’s political landscape in the days ahead.
