MCP diehard blames Chakwera for the party’s ‘loss’

President Lazarus Chakwera

A trending audio clip of an unknown party diehard is circulating on social media, blaming President Lazarus Chakwera for the Malawi Congress Party’s (MCP) poor performance in the 2025 elections.

The supporter in the audio accuses Chakwera of leading the party to defeat, citing his poor decisions as the reason for the party’s weakened state.

Chakwera has a long history in Malawian politics, having contested the presidency in 2014 and 2019 before winning in 2020 through the Tonse Alliance.

However, critics argue that his leadership choices have cost the party influence and support in the 2025 elections.

The audio which also blames party General Secretary Richard Chimwendo Banda has sparked heated debate online, with some MCP members defending Chakwera’s leadership, while others believe the party needs to reassess its strategies to regain political ground.

Chakwera is trailing in nine official areas declared by MEC.His rival Peter Mutharika leads in seven of those.
