MEC shifts Presidential results announcement
The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has announced that the official declaration of the presidential election results will take place this evening, not at 2pm as earlier indicated.
MEC spokesperson Sangwani Mwafulirwa made the announcement during a short press briefing held around 1pm today.
He said the commission’s chairperson, Justice Annabelle Mtalimanja, will preside over the declaration later in the evening.
“The chairperson will officially announce the winner of the 2025 presidential elections this evening, not at 2pm as previously communicated,” Mwafulirwa told journalists.
He did not disclose the exact time for the evening announcement, only saying that all necessary arrangements are being finalized.
The development comes as Malawians continue to await the official results following the September 16 polls.
