Ayuba spits venom: “Chakwera was TOO slow”

Nkhotakota Central independent parliamentarian-elect, Sylvester Ayuba James, who is also a member of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has unleashed a scathing attack on outgoing President Lazarus Chakwera, branding his administration as one of the weakest in Malawi’s history.

In a fiery Facebook post released moments after the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) declared former President Peter Mutharika winner of the September 16 elections, James said he had no kind words for Chakwera, whom he accused of being indecisive, isolated from objective advice, and serving mainly the interests of his family and inner circle.

“Never seen a leader so dumb and indecisive; yet he came at a time when timely decision-making was needed the most,” James wrote.

James added that Chakwera came to finish MCP and he has worsen the party than before.

“This guy came to finish MCP. He has left us worse than he found us. He has dented our legacy beyond correction. I will never be able to forgive him.” James added.

James further claimed Chakwera’s five years in office damaged the Malawi Congress Party’s reputation beyond repair, describing him as a leader without class, ambition or urgency.

The outburst came just hours after MEC Chairperson Justice Annabel Mtalimanja officially declared Mutharika winner with 56.8 percent of the vote, against Chakwera’s 33 percent.

The declaration at the National Tally Centre in Lilongwe sealed Mutharika’s emphatic return to power, ending days of anxious waiting for Malawians.
