Phalombe Sweetness: Divorce cases on the rise!
The Phalombe Magistrate Court has registered 252 divorce cases between January and September 2025, figures from the court registry have shown.
Out of these cases, 73 have been completed, while 103 couples were reconciled after seeking court intervention.
The statistics also indicate that 56 cases were closed after applicants withdrew, with 20 cases still pending.
Commenting on the trend, child rights activist Amos Chibwana described the numbers as worrying, stressing that children remain the most affected whenever divorce occurs.
Chibwana has since urged couples to resolve their differences amicably, warning that the rising divorce cases risk worsening the social and emotional struggles faced by children.
