Terrible : 4 year old drowns in fish pond

A 4-year-old boy, Alex Chisomo Chimkonda, tragically drowned in a fish pond along Machetche Stream at Mponela in Dowa District.

The incident occurred in Mazerengerakhwethe village.

According to Mponela Police spokesperson Macpatson Msadala, Alex and his friend were playing near the pond when they were chased away by a local resident whose goats were grazing nearby.

After conducting a postmortem at Mponela Rural Hospital, authorities determined the cause of death to be suffocation secondary to drowning.

The local community should be aware of potential water hazards, especially for young children, as drowning can occur quickly and silently.

Parents and guardians are advised to closely supervise children when near water bodies.
