Beer is bad: Too much alcohol kills Chitipa man

A 48-year-old man, identified as Matson Siame from James Village under Traditional Authority Kameme in Chitipa District, has died after consuming Kachasu (a locally brewed spirit) on an empty stomach at Sopelera area in Chitipa.

Chitipa Police Assistant Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Mathews Mfune, confirmed the incident, occured where Siame, who was reportedly known for excessive drinking, was found dead on a heap of dry grass.

A postmortem conducted at Chitipa District Hospital revealed that the cause of death was hypoglycaemia, secondary to alcohol intoxication.

Sergeant Mfune has since advised members of the public to drink responsibly and avoid taking alcohol on an empty stomach to prevent similar tragic incidents.
