Death trap? Ntchisi ambulance sparks debate
A photo showing an ambulance from Ntchisi District Hospital that crashed earlier today has gone viral on social media, sparking anger and mockery among Malawians.
The image shows the damaged ambulance lying in a ditch with a bag of charcoal inside instead of a patient.
Some social media users have reacted with shock, questioning why a government ambulance meant to save lives was carrying charcoal.
Some have sarcastically asked whether “the bag of charcoal was sick”.
Ntchisi District Hospital spokesperson Frank Kaphaso and Police Public Relations Officer Salomy Zgambo confirmed the accident, saying the driver, Kondwani Kamawanga, 48, sustained injuries and is receiving treatment at the same hospital.
