Man sent to prison for 15 years over sex with niece

A 30-year-old man identified as Sandram Moyenda has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour by the Lilongwe Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court for having sexual intercourse with his niece.

Deputy Public Relations Officer for Lingadzi Police Station Sergeant Glory Kondowe Ngwira says the convict who hails from Nsanje Village, Traditional Authority Njewa in Lilongwe District approached the victim and convinced her to have canal knowledge with him where she was threatened not to reveal anything to convicts wife at Mtandire Township when her parents were relocating to Salima between 2023-2024.”In January 2025, the victim went to her parents in Salima and while there, she started feeling some abnormal pains and she was taken to Salima District Hospital where she was diagnosed with STI’s,” Ngwira said.Moyenda pleaded guilty to the charge of having sexual intercourse with a female child but asked for leniency in court saying he is a breadwinner for his family including his mother.”However, the state prayed for a stiff punishment, saying the convict committed a serious crime and traumatized the child,” she revealed.
