“All secondary schools fees REMOVED” President Mutharika
President Peter Mutharika has announced that starting from January 2026, all primary and secondary school education in Malawi will be free.
Mutharika made the announcement on Sunday at Chonde in Mulanje during the Mulhakho wa Alhomwe annual cultural festival, where he emphasized his government’s commitment to ensuring that every child in Malawi has access to education.
The president also urged teachers across the country to work extra hard to improve learner performance, saying he is not satisfied with the current 55 percent pass rate in the Malawi Nation Examination Board (MANEB) exams.
The announcement has been welcomed by many people citing it as a bold step toward equal access to education.
