Famous child sex abuse case continues in Blantyre court

The Chief Resident Magistrate’s Court in Blantyre this morning continued hearing a case in which a Dutch national, Wim Akster, is accused of engaging in sexual activities with underage boys.

State prosecutor Victor Jere presented additional witnesses before the court as part of the ongoing trial, while the accused, Akster, was present in court alongside his lawyer, Fostino Maere.

The case is being presided over by Chief Resident Magistrate Paul Chiotcha, who has been handling the matter since it was first brought before the court in 2021.

Akster is facing multiple charges related to sexual exploitation of minors, offences that fall under Malawi’s child protection and penal laws.

The trial, which has attracted public attention and concern over the protection of children, continues as the state presents more evidence.
