Human skeleton found in a mysterious way in Balaka

A human skeleton has been discovered in a decomposed state in Miliya Village, Balaka District, Malawi Data has learnt.

The remains were found by a woman fetching firewood, and dogs were seen eating the body.

Police have launched an investigation and are asking the public to come forward if they have any missing relatives.

The cause of death is unknown.

The matter has been reported to Police by Village Headman Miliya reporting that unknown human skeleton has been found in the bush while in a decomposed state.

Brief facts are that on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at about 06:00 hours, Joyce Khwinda aged 30, of Tchona Village in Traditional Authority Phalula in Balaka District went to her garden to fetch firewood.

While on the way, she heard the backing of the dogs in the nearby bush and she went closer where she saw that the dogs were eating a dead human body.

Upon seeing that, she informed Village Headman Miliya who in turn reported to Phalula Police Unit under Balaka Police Station.

Later, Balaka Police Station and Phalula Detectives in accompany with a clinical officer from Balaka District Hospital rushed to the scene where the clinician confirmed that the bones are of human being, but what caused the death is not known as it was found in skeleton.

Meanwhile, Police in Balaka are asking the communities around Phalula to find out incase if their relative has been missing for the past three weeks.
