“Men at Times TV wanted to sleep with me” Ex presenter Mimi reveals

Miriam Mtambo, a former presenter for Times Group, has revealed why she left the media house: Simple. It is because men wanted to take her to BED and make her a woman she is.

She has now bravely shared her experiences of sexual harassment within Malawi’s media industry, alleging systemic abuse and a culture of silence that enables perpetrators.

Mimi’s claims highlight not only the challenges faced by women in media but also the troubling complicity of female colleagues in perpetuating this cycle of harassment.

In an emotional statement, Mtambo revealed that her departure from Times Group was the result of severe harassment and retaliation after she reported inappropriate behavior by a senior manager.

Despite her courage in speaking out, she faced punitive measures, including being stripped of her on-air roles and reassigned far from her home base.

“I left Times because I was sexually harassed and punished for reporting it,” Mtambo stated. “Even the top boss knows this. Most people turned away from me.”

Her story sheds light on the broader issue of female-on-female harassment, as she recounts being summoned for a hearing by a woman she had considered a colleague, following her report of harassment.

“The same women who should have supported me chose their jobs over protecting a fellow woman,” she lamented.

“Let me be clear: I fear no one and chose truth over silence. A woman should be allowed to be a woman without fear of harassment simply because she can demand respect.”
