Police hunting for electricity transformer thieves

Police in Nkhata Bay are hunting for unknown suspects who have stolen 23 meters of copper wire worth over K3 million from an Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (Escom) transformer at Singo and Pundu areas in the district.

According to Nkhata Bay Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Devoter Mithi, the theft was discovered after an Escom fault management officer was informed by a site supervisor that the area was experiencing a blackout due to vandalized electrical equipment.
