Three young people drown in Mulanje
Three young children have died in separate river incidents in Mulanje within just a few days.
The victims include 7-year-old Tawina James, who drowned in Thuchira river on October 21, 2025, and two brothers, 10-year-old Maxwell Thonyiwa and 8-year-old Francis Walani, who died in Lichenya river five days later.
Authorities are urging parents and guardians to be vigilant and keep a close eye on their children, especially during the hot weather.
“Drowning is a preventable tragedy,” says Innocent Moses, Mulanje Police Station’s Public Relations Officer.
He appeals to caregivers to take necessary precautions to ensure children’s safety.
