MP under fire for not holding the Bible on oath taking
Residents of Likoma Island have expressed varied opinions following Member of Parliament Charles Chilambula’s swearing-in ceremony, where he didn’t hold a Bible.
While some see no issue, many criticize the MP, citing his known religious background.
Some locals feel a leader, chosen by God, should respect Him and hold a Bible to lead them in developing the district.
“He started his rallies with a prayer, so it’s surprising he didn’t hold a Bible this time,” said one resident, who wished to remain anonymous.
Chilambula counters that he didn’t refuse to hold a Bible, but used one of the three methods allowed by law, citing the option to hold a Bible or the Quran.
