“Stop re-arresting people” Kabwila

Jessie Kabwila has condemned the re-arrest of 11 suspects linked to pre-election violence in Lilongwe, hours after they were granted bail.

Kabwila described the move as politically motivated and an abuse of power, saying “You can’t keep rearresting people — these are human beings with families. What’s happening is executive arrogance.”

She also raised concerns about the suspects’ treatment in custody, alleging some were beaten, and called for human rights bodies to intervene.

The 17 suspects face charges related to an April 2024 attack at Mbowe Filling Station and are expected to appear in court tomorrow.
