Man sent to prison for sleeping with a young girl
A 21-year-old man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison with hard labour for sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl.
The Mangochi Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court convicted Daudi Lastoni for the crime, which occurred in July, this year.
The court heard that Lastoni was a tenant trusted by the victim’s family and when the girl’s mother, who was hospitalized, asked him to look after her children.
On one night in July, Lastoni is reportedly to have sexually assaulted the girl multiple times while her siblings slept.
Neighbours became suspicious the next morning after seeing the child in pain and struggling to walk.
The girl then revealed the assault.A medical examination at Koche Community Hospital confirmed the defilement and that the victim had suffered a fistula.
Despite pleading not guilty, the state’s three witnesses proved the case beyond a reasonable doubt.
Meanwhile, Senior Resident Magistrate Muhammad Chande handed down the 15-year sentence, agreeing with the prosecution that the crime was “inhuman and intolerable.”
