“Give us loans” – Malawi sex workers tell government

Sex Workers in Malawi are asking government to give them loans so to advance their businesses.

Sex Workers Empowerment Alliance in Dedza (Swead), an organization that manages a group of women in Dedza district, Alice Matambo, said the government should consider providing loans to these people to start small businesses.

Matambo said economic hardship and the rising cost of various goods are seriously affecting the lives of these women.

“These people are suffering like everyone else, regardless of the work they do,” she said.

According to Matambo, 1,900 women have registered with her organization.
