Umodzi Party speaks tough on recent taxes, agriculture inputs
Umodzi Party President Thomas Kaumba has expressed concern over the government’s implementation of the lean season food program, alleging corruption and favoritism towards ruling party members.
Speaking at a press briefing, Kaumba stated that only a handful of Malawians have benefited from the program, which targets over 4 million people in need.
“We are gravely shocked by the corruption in implementing this initiative, which has left targeted beneficiaries out of the system,” Kaumba said.
“The complaints we have received indicate that only DPP members are benefiting from this universal program.”
Kaumba is calling for the Ministry of Agriculture to reorganize the program, increase the number of beneficiaries, and ensure equal opportunities for all citizens.
He also criticized MPs’ attempt to amend laws governing Constituency Development Funds (CDF), labeling it “daylight robbery” and questioning the motives of legislators.
On security, Kaumba expressed concern over recent murders, including Dr. Victoria Bobe’s, and criticized the government’s handling of investigations.
He demanded transparency on suspects’ arrests and cases.
aumba also urged the government to update Malawians on the plane crash inquiry involving Vice President Saulos Chilima and the status of the investigation into former President Bingu wa Mutharika’s death.
