Daughter to Malawi’s ex President Violet Chakwera recalled from UK

Malawi’s government has recalled Violet Chakwera, daughter of former President Lazarus Chakwera, from the Malawi Embassy in the United Kingdom.

The recall is effective immediately, with Violet granted three months to process her return to Malawi, according to a letter signed by Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bright Molande.

Violet Chakwera was appointed as a diplomat in the UK, sparking controversy over nepotism, given her father’s position as President.

She had been serving as First Secretary Responsible for Investments at the Malawi High Commission in London.
