Study shows bilharzia mutation on STIs like symptoms
Bilharzia, a disease transmitted from livestock to humans, is mutating and causing symptoms similar to sexually transmitted infections (STIs) due to hybrid genetics affecting the human reproductive system.
A study by the Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Trust found that 7% of people near water bodies in Mangochi and Nsanje districts are affected.
The disease is also causing cancer-like symptoms.
Researchers are calling for a “one health” approach, targeting humans, animals, and the environment.
he Ministry of Health welcomes the findings and pledges a holistic prevention approach.
