Man sent to prison for sleeping with a 2 year old girl

The First Grade Magistrate Court has handed down a 14-year prison sentence with hard labor to Tione Mtambo, a 24-year-old man, for engaging in sexual intercourse with a two-year-old child in Chitipa District.

This offense took place on 28 May 2025 at Khunthu Village under Traditional Authority Senior Chief MweneWenya, where both the perpetrator and the victim resided.

After being identified by the child’s mother and sister, Mtambo was promptly arrested on 29 May 2025, the day following the incident.

Despite initially pleading not guilty, Mtambo was found guilty after the court considered evidence from the prosecution and witnesses.

Prosecutor Isabel Mkandawire urged the court to impose a severe sentence, emphasizing the trauma experienced by the young victim and the need for deterrence against similar offenses.

First Grade Magistrate Billy Ngosi, in delivering the sentence, strongly condemned Mtambo’s actions, describing them as inhuman and particularly aggravated by the fact that Mtambo himself is married and has a two-year-old daughter.

The court’s ruling included a directive for Mtambo to serve his 14-year sentence with hard labor, effective from the date of his arrest, and for the case file to be forwarded to the High Court for further review and potential enhancement of the sentence.
