Road accidents over Christmas rise in Malawi
Malawi has seen an increase in road accidents over Christmas, with 30 incidents recorded this year causing nine deaths.
This is compared to 19 accidents the same time in 2024.
According to National Police spokesperson Lael Chimtembo, fatal crashes dropped from 11 to 5, but overall accidents rose over 50%.
The incidents resulted in 9 deaths, 3 serious injuries, and 36 minor injuries.
Speeding and reckless driving were major causes.
Authorities promise stricter traffic enforcement.
