Welcome to Maula: Chimwendo Banda sent to prison

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Secretary General Richard Chimwendo Banda has been taken to Maula Prison this afternoon after being discharged from the hospital, his lawyer George Jivason Kadzipatike confirmed.

Kadzipatike is being quoted by local media that Chimwendo Banda was discharged on the doctors’ recommendation but is not fully fit and needs further medical treatment.

“The doctors have given him another appointment for review,” Kadzipatike said.

Chimwendo Banda, who has been in hospital for two weeks following a health issue while in police custody, is now awaiting judgement on his bail application.

Judge Mzonde Mvula indicated that the judgement date will be communicated later.
