Malawi President changes cabinet: No more minister of state

President Peter Mutharika has made significant changes to his Cabinet, aiming to strengthen his administration and enhance service delivery in key sectors.

Jappie Mhango, former Lands Minister, has been redeployed as Minister of Transport and Public Works, while Chimwemwe Chipungu swaps roles with Feston Kaupa, taking over as Minister of Lands and Housing. Kaupa, previously Transport Minister, now heads the Defence Ministry .

Alfred Gangata has been appointed Minister of Natural Resources, bringing experience to the role.

The changes see Joseph Mwanamvekha retaining the Finance portfolio.

The reshuffle is part of Mutharika’s broader strategy to revitalize his government and drive economic growth, particularly in agriculture, trade, and industrialization.
