Police stop spaghetti smuggling from Mozambique into Malawi

Mwanza Police have foiled an attempt to smuggle 87 bags of spaghetti into Malawi from Mozambique .

The bags, each weighing 15 kgs, were cleverly hidden in fertilizer bags and being transported by three motorcycle operators without proper documentation.

Police Spokesperson Hope Kasakula explains that the operators didn’t have duty clearance documents, prompting the seizure.

The spaghetti has been handed over to the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) for the owners to pay the required duty before it can be sold in the local market.

Smuggling deprives the government of revenue and can harm local businesses.

The MRA is urging citizens to comply with customs regulations and report any suspicious activities
