Cholera kills woman in Neno
One person has died of cholera in Neno district Neno District has reported its first cholera-related death this season, with three confirmed cases and 46 suspected cases as of January 13, 2026.
The victim, a 35-year-old woman from Kazunga Village, died at Chifunga Health Centre after showing symptoms of the disease.
According to Caroline Banda, Neno District Health Office spokesperson, the woman had broken her fast and consumed untreated water, which is suspected to be the source of the infection.
Health officials are currently conducting contact tracing to prevent further spread of the disease.
Banda is urging communities in Neno to prioritize good hygiene practices, including:- Drinking treated water- Regular handwashing- Proper waste disposal .
These measures are key to controlling the outbreak and preventing more cases.
The district health office says it is working tirelessly to contain the situation.
