Court rules in Mary Khembo’s favor as MP

High Court Judge Ruth Chinangwa has declared Mary Maulidi Khembo the winner of the September 16, 2025, Parliamentary Election in Neno East Constituency, upholding the Malawi Electoral Commission’s (MEC) earlier declaration.

The petitioners, Barry Kasamba, Felix Pensulo Phiri, and Patrick Kamkwatira, failed to prove that Khembo breached electoral laws through handouts.

Khembo’s lawyer, Bob Chinkango, said the courts called the case “baseless,” stating that the petitioners should have lodged their complaint with the Registrar of Political Parties instead of the courts.

Khembo, a Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate, is now free to continue her legislative roles in Neno East.
