President Mutharika orders change on Paul Kagame Road
Malawi President Peter Mutharika has directed that Paul Kagame Road in the capital Lilongwe be renamed John Chilembwe Road.
The move is part of conferring national honors on John Chilembwe, a revered Malawian figure.
Chief Secretary Justin Saidi stated that the President made this decision under Section 89(1)(c) of the Constitution and Section 5 of the Regional and District Boundaries and Place Names Act.
The change will be published in the Government Gazette.
The Ministry of Transport and Public Infrastructure has been tasked with installing new road signs by January 16, 2026.
