ACB cracks down on MK 30 Billion corrupt deals
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested six people, including three Greenbelt Authority (GBA) officials and three private contractors, over alleged corruption worth over MK30 Billion.
The arrested GBA officials are:
– Linda Phiri, Director of Finance and Investments
– Masautso Kamowa, Procurement and Assets Disposal Manager
– Synoden Kautsi, Infrastructure Development Manager.
The private contractors are:
– Kenneth Khonje, Einstein Construction Limited
– Victor Chabwera, PLMB Engineering Investment
– Ephrone Mwenitete, EMD Consulting Engineers.
According to ACB Acting Director General Gabriel Chembezi, the arrested are accused of dubiously awarding contracts and making advance payments worth K36.7 billion for four irrigation schemes.
The ACB says the money was paid without performance bonds and using fake work certificates, then used for political campaigns and paid to GBA employees.
The ACB has warrants for three more GBA employees and two contractors.
