Deaths due to floods in Malawi reach 40

The Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) reports a rise in flood-related deaths, now at 40, up from 36.

The latest DoDMA report also shows 209 people injured in these disasters.DoDMA spokesperson Chipiliro Khamula confirmed the increase.

Most deaths were caused by lightning strikes and collapsing walls, says Khamula.

Stormy rains, strong winds, flash floods, and lightning have hit 29 councils.

About 36,283 households are impacted across these areas.Khamula highlights the severity of the situation in affected regions.

Relief efforts are likely underway, but details aren’t available yet.
