Cholera strikes Blantyre

A cholera outbreak has been confirmed in Blantyre, with nineteen individuals testing positive for the disease, primarily in the areas of Chilomoni, Chileka, Chirimba, and Machinjiri Townships.

Dr. Gift Kawalazira, the Director of Health Services in Blantyre, has confirmed this alarming development prompting swift action from local health authorities.

The outbreak comes amid ongoing concerns about waterborne diseases in the region.

In response, health officials have initiated the distribution of cholera vaccines and chlorine to affected communities in an effort to curb the spread of the disease.

“We are committed to protecting our citizens and preventing further infections. Immediate interventions are being implemented in the most affected areas,” stated Dr. Kawalazira.
