Man sent to prison for pretending to be an Immigration Officer

Kelvin Mpinda, a 37-year-old man, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison at Chichiri Prison for impersonating an immigration officer.

Mpinda falsely claimed to be a senior officer at the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services in Blantyre, soliciting K20,000 and passport application forms from two applicants.

He was arrested after the victims lodged complaints, and found guilty of impersonating a public officer and obtaining money by false pretences, under Sections 99 and 319 of the Penal Code.
