Woman arrested for online fraud

A 20-year-old woman, Charlotte Botha, is being held by Blantyre police for allegedly engaging in online fraud.

She is accused of deceiving victims by claiming to be in a sexual relationship with them and demanding money, threatening to leak information if they don’t pay.

Preliminary investigations into WhatsApp chats on her phone link her to fraudulent activities, including fake identities and impersonation.

Some alleged victims are influential individuals, but their identities are withheld for privacy reasons.

Botha has appeared in court, denied the allegations, and her case is adjourned to February 6 for hearing.

Police warn the public against online fraud, advising people to avoid such traps.

This case highlights the risks of online interactions and the importance of being cautious when sharing personal information or sending money to individuals.
