Two men arrested for possessing two Pangolins

Police in Chikwawa have apprehended two individuals for allegedly possessing two live pangolins, two pieces of raw ivory, and pangolin scales.

The individuals have been named as Kingsley Kapilingana from Njumba Village under Traditional Authority Ganya in Ntcheu, and Bonezi Mzambana from Rabu Village under Traditional Authority Masache in Chikwawa.

Chikwawa Police Publicist, Dickson Matemba, stated that this incident occurred after police received a tip-off regarding the two attempting to sell the aforementioned items prior to their arrest.

Matemba further mentioned that the live pangolins have been transferred to Majete Game Reserve for safekeeping.

According to Matemba, the two individuals will be brought before the court once the necessary paperwork is finalized to address the charges.

Pangolin scales are mistakenly believed to treat various ailments, including asthma, rheumatism, and arthritis, as well as to enhance lactation, despite lacking any verified medicinal properties (they are composed of keratin, similar to human fingernails).
