Former ministers, Zamba facing abuse of office charges
Three ex-senior government officials have been charged with abuse of office, fraud, and money laundering in connection with contracts awarded to East Bridge for fertilizer, soya beans, and tobacco.
Sosten Gwengwe, the former Finance Minister, Samuel Kawale, the former Agriculture Minister, and Colleen Zamba, the former Secretary to the President and Cabinet, are alleged to have participated in transactions exceeding 200 billion kwacha.
The joint investigation was carried out by the Malawi Police Service and the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
As stated by Lael Chimtembo, the Public Relations Officer for the Malawi Police, the three suspects are expected to appear in court shortly as the investigation proceeds.
