Boy dies in a river while running from chasers

A 16-year-old Standard 7 student at Mulanje Mission Primary School, Mathews Masamba, tragically drowned in the Likhubula River while being chased by a farmer from a sugarcane farm.

According to reports, he lost his life while fleeing from a farm owner who had accused him of stealing sugarcane.

In an attempt to evade capture, Masamba leaped into the river, and his body was discovered floating there the following day.

The police have since verified that the cause of death was suffocation.
