Scaled down: Govt reduces Principal Secretaries listing

The Malawi government has decreased the number of Principal Secretaries from 80 to 38 as part of an initiative to enhance financial management and restore order within the public service.

Chief Secretary to the Government, Justin Saidi, made this announcement today, indicating that the restructuring aims to foster efficiency and the responsible use of public resources.

Saidi emphasizes that the public service should be comprised of officers who are thoroughly familiar with their assigned responsibilities.

While addressing the orientation of Principal Secretaries in government ministries and departments in Lilongwe this morning, Saidi urged the controlling officers to strive towards rebuilding a civil service that genuinely reflects the will and interests of the Malawian people.

In addition, Secretary to the Treasury, Cliff Chiunda, stated that the government is enacting reforms designed to stabilize the economy and is dedicated to following through with the changes being implemented.
