Police confiscate 300 charcoal bags
Authorities in Mangochi District, have seized a lorry loaded with 300 bags of charcoal and taken the driver, Kumbani Banda, into custody.
As stated by Alice Sichali, the spokesperson for the Monkey Bay Police Station, the Scania 7-tonne lorry was stopped at Nankumba in the district, reportedly transporting charcoal from Monkey Bay to Lilongwe without the necessary documentation.
“The production, transportation, and sale of charcoal without the appropriate documents is prohibited under the Forestry Act,” Sichali remarked.
The accused has confessed to being employed by individuals who are currently evading capture, and investigations are ongoing to locate and apprehend them.
The vehicle is currently being held at the police station.
